Organizational Development

Enabling organizations to adapt to today’s complex business climate.

Organizations face relentless competition, as well as ever-increasing customer demands and requirements. These factors combine to challenge the effectiveness, efficiency, profitability, and competitiveness of organizations operating in the new millennium.

To achieve their goals, organizations need to harness the full potential of people’s knowledge, creativity, and skill.

Organizations must adapt in order to compete. TRUE NORTH COACHING SOLUTIONS helps organizations create their futures. We facilitate success through a three-step process:

  1. Assess the organization’s current state

  2. Build a clear vision, mission, strategy, and goals

  3. Take action through:

    • Developing action plan steps

    • Decision-making

    • Goal achievement

    • Metrics

The process develops alignment between the organization’s vision, mission, and operating principles and its strategy, goals, and actions.

Assessing the Current State

Working at the organization, workgroup and individual levels, the first step

looks at all critical drivers of organizational effectiveness; findings are reported

back to the organization’s senior management and its members.

The assessment step gathers information using methods such as surveys,

focus groups and interviews.

The information is analyzed to determine to what degree drivers of

organizational effectiveness is helping or hindering the organization.

Drivers include:

  • Organization Culture

  • Mission & Goals

  • Leadership

  • Management Practices

  • Communication Effectiveness

  • Work Processes

  • Job Design

  • Competence

  • Human Resource Practices

  • Performance Management Processes

  • Compensation and Rewards

Developing Shared Vision, Mission, & Goals

Using the information gathered in the assessment step, TRUE NORTH COACHING SOLUTIONS works with leaders, managers, and teams to help create the organization’s future.

This is accomplished by ensuring the elements of effective business strategy are well defined and in place, including vision, mission, operating principles, goals, strategy, and measurements.

Vision:  An effective vision focuses on the desired future state of an organization.  Effective vision will inspire and motivate people to think and act beyond the status quo.  Vision encourages people to work towards achieving the organization’s preferred future state.

Mission:  A meaningful mission defines the organization’s overall purpose, its reason for being, and its identity.  Effective missions will positively affect people’s attitudes and behavior.

Operating Principles:  Operating principles identify the organization’s values,  beliefs, and philosophies.  They are used as criteria for making decisions and will act as drivers of desired behavior.

Goal Setting:  Goals make the organization’s vision, mission and operating principles come to life.  Effective goals link to the overall vision and mission; goals are aligned up – down – across the organization; they are specific, measurable, and clear; they determine how people are rewarded and recognized.

Strategy:  Strategy becomes the plans and actions that achieve the short term and long term goals of the enterprise.  Strategy moves the organization towards its preferred future state.

Measurement:  Measurements are the organization’s scorecard.  Measurements track the achievement of milestones; they let management teams and individuals know how they’re progressing and trigger the need to adjust goals over time.

Taking Action - Goals

Taking action and achieving goals are the natural outcome of the work done in the first two steps of the process.  Steps one and two provide the leadership, common purpose, clear direction, motivation, and climate for success.  As a result, actions are taken by management teams and individuals to achieve business goals; additionally, actions build long-term capability and business process improvement into the fabric of the organization’s culture by:

  1. Designing and implementing work processes that improve how work gets done.

  2. Deploying resources to most effectively and efficiently achieve the organization’s goals.

  3. Rewarding and recognizing behaviors and achievements that align with organizational strategy and goals.
